Provincial Nominee Program

Eleven of Canada’s provinces and territories have Provincial Nominee Programs(PNPs). Each PNP program prioritises applicants with relevant skills and experience needed by the province. The following provinces have PNPs:

  • Alberta
  • British Columbia
  • Manitoba
  • Newfoundland and Labrador
  • New Brunswick
  • Northwest Territories
  • Nova Scotia
  • Ontario
  • Prince Edward Island
  • Saskatchewan
  • Yukon

Successful PNP applicants will receive what’s known as a Provincial Nomination (PN). What’s more, Express Entry applicants who’ve expressed interest in a specific province may be selected directly from the Express Entry draw pool by the province to receive a PN.

Please note: A PN is worth 600 permanent residency (PR) points, giving you an edge over other applicants in the draw.

Provincial Nominee Program Requirements

To qualify for the Canadian Provincial Nominee Program, you will have to:

Meet the criteria of 1 of various PNP streams under your chosen PNP,

Have a job offer in your chosen territory or have obtained a provincial educational qualification, and

Be admissible to Canada.

How to Apply

Option 1: Apply directly to the province of your choice.

This application process can either be done online or by paper application. The Canadian Provincial Nominee Program application generally takes a bit longer than the Express Entry process; however, some PNP programs, such as the BC PNP, process online visa applications in as little as two to three months!

Option 2: Express Entry Process.

The Express Entry process involves:

Step 1: Determine where your profession is in demand in Canada, which province you want to live in, and which PNP program or stream you qualify for - the best way to do this is an eligibility assessment.

Step 2: Create an Express Entry profile - applicants must apply online via the government website. (Remember to express interest in the province of your choice)

Step 3: Gather supporting documentation - you may need documents like your passport, education qualifications, resume and work experience documentation to complete the application form.

Step 4: Receive your PN - If successful, you’ll get a provincial nomination or PN from your province of choice to apply for permanent residency.

Step 5: Apply for permanent residency - Once you have your PN, you’ll have 90 days to apply for permanent residency in Canada.

Put your Canadian future in the hands of immigration professionals you can trust.
