Canada Family sponsorship programs allow permanent residents, or citizens of Canada, to sponsor relatives to live in Canada and become permanent residents themselves.
Eligible applicants for family sponsorship to Canada:
- Spouse,
- Partner (Common-law or conjugal),
- Dependent biological or adopted child/children (younger than 22 years old),
- Parents, or
- Grandparents.
Once your family member becomes a permanent resident of Canada, they’ll be able to live, work or study in Canada. Whats’ more, they’ll also have access to benefits, such as free public healthcare.

To be considered eligible for Canadian family sonsorship, you must be:
18 years or older, and
A Canadian citizen, or
Canadian permanent resident,
Or a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act.
Please Note: You will be required to support your loved ones financially and provide them with their basic needs, as well as ensure that they don’t require government social assistance. (You must not be receiving social assistance either.)
How to Apply
As of September 23, 2022, family sponsorship applications will only be received online, unless you are unable to due to certain circumstances, such as disability.
The family sponsorship application process is a two-step process:
Step 1: Apply to be a sponsor.
Step 2: Your spouse, partner or child applies for permanent residence.
